Two Day Introduction to EIS

The Two-Day EIS Short Course was first offered in 2022. The 2025 Course is the full Four-Day Course. If you have interest in the Two-Day version in the future, please let us know either through registration or by email. Also, if there are two or more co-workers at your site that are interested in EIS, an onsite course that is custumized to your specific interests may be the optimum format for both course content and value. Please let us know of your interests by registration or email.

Course Overview

If you are just beginning to use EIS or considering its use in your work, this two day course will introduce you to the basic concepts of electrochemistry and EIS and give you hands-on experience with the set-up and use of this essential test method. With over 30 years of experience teaching EIS in our more extensive, week-long course, we understand that there is a need for many of you to become oriented to the method and start with the basics. Understanding these core concepts is essential for developing your intuition and ease with the use of EIS. This two day course will accomplish this through a combination of lectures, hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and discussion sessions. Resolving your questions is essential.

About EIS

Impedance spectroscopy (IS) is an extremely powerful, non-destructive investigative technique that can obtain essential information about interfacial and bulk material parameters through the use of low energy, time varying electrical excitation. When applied to an electrochemical system, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) can provide information on reaction parameters, corrosion rates, oxide characteristics and integrity, surface porosity, coating integrity, mass transport, and many other electrode/interface characteristics. EIS is one of the most powerful methods available in electrochemistry today and is utilized in research and development in essentially every technical sector, e.g., transportation and infrastructure, batteries and fuel cells, medicine, and many others. However, effective utilization of this method requires a cohesive explanation of the theory, measurement, and analysis techniques. This two-day course on EIS has been developed to introduce these concepts and lay the foundation for further reading and investigation.
